With only a name as a lead "Daytuk Robert Stephen Evans"we set about tracking this man down. After checking the museum for links through Colonial history no luck, then phone book no luck again, then the Sabah tourism office wee bit off luck but a dead end. By this time Frances was despondent, so we decided to visit the Borneo book shop to find something on colonial history. By chance Richard picked up a book on the Japanese invaision of Borneo saying this may have something about the POW camp your father was in. When we looked at the author of the book "lo and behold" it was written by Robert Evans. The owner of the shop had his phone number and said that she knew him well enough to ring him and say his cousin was in her shop in Kota Kinabalu!!! The next day we took a taxi 85 miles inland to a town called Keningau which was about two & half hours over the Cracker Range. The taxi driver ageed to wait two hours and drive us back to KK, it turned out to be three hours before we left.bcon co ook shopv v bla |
